Chapter 7 Question 1

This week has been really hard for me. My dads cancer has woken up again, but I got to think of an inductive argument from it. My dad's cancer is lymphoma, and it is genetic. Therefore, it could be a possibility that I also might inherit the cancer. It is an inductive argument because I stated that it could be inherited to either my siblings or myself. It is not an 100% sure thing, but it is a possibility because it is genetic. I took two dependent premises and made a conclusion out of them. Truthfully, right now I am just going to go along with the treatment and hope for the best possible scenario. I am going to get tested to see if I have it also, but it isn't usually seen until adulthood. If you are reading this, do a little prayer, and if your not religious, maybe just a moment of silence. Thanks for reading!

Always,

-GreekGuy

  1. Hello Greek Guy,

I am sorry to hear the sad news. It really is not a good way to start your week. My mum had a thyroid cancer ten years ago and I totally know what your feelings are. The doctor said I might also inherit due to those genes sometimes pass on to cancer patient’s children and we have higher chance to get cancer than other people. I will need to get tested regularly whether do I have any active cancer cells in my body. You provided a realistic inductive example, but unfortunately it is not a good one. Let’s hope your dad well be okay!

    Take care,
    Adrian

  2. I'm so sorry to hear about this. It's not something that anyone would want to hear. I personally don't know anyone that has cancer, but I could only imagine how it's like. Just keep your head up and get tested regularly to see if you have it, your siblings as well. Hopefully you are lucky and end up not getting it passed down to you. Keep thinking positive! This is a really good example of an inductive argument, but unfortunately it's not something good. I hope you, your siblings and your dad the best! I hope your dad will put up a good fight against it and will be okay.

  4. Hi GreekGuy,

I am sorry to hear about your Dad. From the inductive reasoning that you used, you can possibly be more cautious of lifestyle choices if you and your siblings can somehow avoid getting it that way. Or at least have check-ups with your doctor regularly to really see if you guys are doing ok. My Aunt had breast cancer a couple years ago and it was devastating because she seemed so healthy and okay. She had to have a mastectomy and the recovery was painful and is still is sometimes. I’m praying for your Dad and you and your family!

    Hoping for the best,
    Louise

  5. Hello GreekGuy,
I heart literally just paused while reading this. I am praying as I type this for not only your father but for your whole family. This is something that is serious and I admire how strong you are by standing by your dad and siblings. Unfortunately your inductive argument is of a serious matter nevertheless it is a great example of the conclusion possibly following the premise, which I hope does not happen. I am glad to hear that you are aware and have taken the proper step into looking out for your health. I hope your father makes it through and I will continue to pray.

    Praying for the best,
    Heisenberg

  6. Hi Greek Guy,
I am sorry about your dad. I’m sure this is difficult for you and your family. My grandmother recently passed away of lung cancer and it was really hard on me and my family. My condolences go out to you and your family. Be strong for your dad, I hope he gets through this! The inductive reasoning you used is a good example. The premises are valid and sound, but like someone said we hope they do not happen. The premises and conclusion are possible which makes the argument true.

  7. Hello GreekGuy,

This sounds like a very tough and difficult situation; I am very sorry for both you and your family. I believe that things like this are very hard to tell other people, so thank you for being brave enough to share it with us, your fellow classmates. Even though this is not something good to hear, it was a good inductive argument because your conclusion probably follows from your premises. It always seems as if it's a 50/50 chance ..... but I hope you test healthy and safe. But it is a good example. I hope you get the chance to spend a lot of time with your dad and your family.

  8. Hi Greek Guy,
I'm really sorry to hear about that and I really hope that you don't inherit it, but that is a very valid inductive argument. Because your father does have cancer it is possible that you might later on in your life also have it (although i would never wish that on anyone). I will definitely be praying for you and hope the best for you. Don't worry, whatever happens is in God's control! Try not to worry about it right now and enjoy the life that God has given you. Even if you do not inherit it, none of us know how much longer we'll live. So God Bless!
