Chapter 2 Question 1

I truthfully think that one of my greatest strengths is having empathy for people. I can easily tap into others emotions and body language just by looking at them. It might sound weird, but I feel like I have a sixth sense. I can also easily tell when people are lying and when people are uncomfortable. Another thing I have is just good old logic. I can easily interpret situations and problems that might take others a little bit longer to comprehend. For a career choice, either psychology or business would probably be the best bet for me. Going along with the emotional reasoning, I can use that in order to work as a psychologist or a counsellor. With my logical reasoning, I can apply that into business and handle situations perfectly. Overall, I really enjoyed this section, because it really lets one think about jobs and how to find the right job by critical thinking.

Thanks for reading,

  1. I agree that if having empathy is your best skill and strength that you should find a career in Psychology. This is because being a counselor or a psychologist, you have the opportunity to listen to other peoples problems or to simply give others advice. As an empathetic person you are able to understand other’s experiences and to feel the emotions of other people. This job would be perfect because you are able to put your skills to need and since having empathy you are doing basically the same thing psychologists do, you might as well make a career out of it especially if you enjoy it .

  2. Your strength of having empathy for people is cool. The examples you give remind me of the show, "Lie To Me" because they are able to tell when the criminals are lying by their facial expressions, and their body language. I think with this skill, it would be good to pursue a career in psychology because it would be very natural for you to just be able to read their emotions. Becoming a psychologist or counselor, like you said, would be a good idea because you would be able to understand everyone's emotions. If you enjoy the skill that you have, I think the best career would be a psychologist/counselor, or something having to do with the law enforcement, in the behavioral analysis unit.

  3. Having empathy is a great strength to have especially if you really want to choose psychology or even business. You can help people more easily through psychology since you can tell easily how people feel like. While for business, you can use logic and reason things out like what is the best thing to do for your business. You can even apply it to daily life. Since you know how to understand people and their emotions, you are probably good at handling different relationships and situations as well. Basically, I agree with the example you gave that with this strength, you can go into either psychology or business.

  4. Hi Greek Guy,

I believe that having empathy for people is a good quality to have. I think that once you know someone’s feelings are involved you are more than likely to be understanding. It is good to recognize people’s feelings by their body language or a certain tone of voice that they have. I think that your set of skills such as, empathy and logic would be great for a career in psychology. Knowing how to read people is beneficial because you can recognize false statements or know what intentions people might have in certain situations. I feel that in any career choice, this is a great quality to have.

  5. Hi Greek Guy,

Understanding empathy sounds very handy. It helps read the emotions of other people and that helps prevents misunderstandings. It also prevents a person from sounding rude in certain situations. I wish I could tell when someone is lying easily. I'm sometimes too gullible and believe anyone or anything. Knowing when someone is uncomfortable is also handy to prevent further discomfort. I always try to make people feel more comfortable. These skills can be handy in any job you decide to do, because these skills involve all sorts of people. Logic also comes in handy. I sometimes wonder how some people's common sense can be so strange.

  6. Dear Greek Guy,

I want to start off my saying that it is truly a gift to be able to tell if a person is lying and I wish I could do the same. Having empathy is also a really great trait to have and can be useful for many fields of study. The fact you are able to easily interpret situations and problems is also a great trait. Wanting to be in the field of psychology or business would most definitely be a good choice on your part. All the traits you have would go well and are needed too.
